Here’s what happened at the Fortress Festival 2018:
The 2nd annual Fortress Festival returned to Fort Worth this past spring weekend. Featuring a mix of both local and national talent, fans flocked to the cultural district outside of Will Rogers Memorial Center for 2 days of live music.
Asking a few fans attending the event, one compared live music to watching an Artist such as Picasso paint. There was a broad spectrum of musical genres, ranging from rock to jazz rap.
Chicano Batman (Los Angeles, CA)
Surf sound with a jazz-rock vibe. performers wore maroon tuxedos.
RZA (ft. Stone Mecca)
This act was essentially a blend of Jimi Hendrix-esque guitar riffs mixed with east coast hip hop. RZA, of the Wu Tang Clan, provided complimentary vibes the ‘Future Soul’ sound of the set.
De La Soul was a flashback to the early 90’s era of Hip Hop; akin to the sounds of A Tribe Called Quest and J Dilla (whose memory was honored during the performance).
Chromeo (Montreal, Canada)
As the final set of the first night, Chromeo was one of our favorite acts due to the vivid visual effects involved in their performance. Extensive preparation went into the stage set-up, with precise measurements made of the equipments position and diligent polishing of the chrome stage.
Various songs had different lighting sequences and colors.
